delete the adjectives and you’ll have the facts.

I’ll Have A Butterscotch Sundae, I Guess.

Someone asked me the other day what I’m looking for in a guy. To be honest, I’ve never really been too sure. I have dated guys that are polar opposites from another. And when I’m with that person, that’s what I think I need at the time.  But I’m usually wrong, of course.

So, I thought about it, and then I realized it.

I want a Richie Tenenbaum.

Ever since I first saw “The Royal Tenenbaums,” I’ve wanted to dress up like Margot Tenenbaum for Halloween, but I’d only do it if whoever I was with at the time would be Richie. But it never happened… mainly because the guys I dated had never seen the movie and didn’t get why I wanted to do it.  I think when I meet the right person, it’ll click. I’ll just know whether he is Richie-worthy or not.

Margot & Richie.

You know what else would be awesome?  Dating someone who loves watching Jeopardy! as much as me.  As in, they take the game very seriously, and rush home to see it.  That would be awesome.

I don’t think I’m asking too much here.

Oh, blog of mine… how I have neglected you.  Forgive me.

So, a couple weeks ago, I went to a neurologist to see if I could get some medication for my daily headaches.  I was recommended to Dr. Piniero by my dad, who kept referring him to “Dr. Panera,” so I felt like an idiot when I called to make an appointment.

Anyway, the doctor asked me tons of questions, and made a comment about how small my face is.  Then he pressed on the bones on the side of my face and on my temples, and asked if it hurt.  It did.  A lot.  Then he told me I have TMJ headaches.  I didn’t know there was such a thing.

I have an unusually small face, mouth, and jaw.  My jaw is always trying to come out further when I sleep, which causes pain, which causes headaches.  Which is why I wake up with a headache almost every morning.  I always thought my headaches were a hereditary thing… I always thought I got them from my Dad.  It turns out his are attributed to allergies.  Weird.

Dr. Piniero said that TMJ headaches are pretty common, and that some people have surgery to try and correct their jaws.  He told me that it was completely unnecessary, and just prescribed me some medicine.  I have to take it every night before I go to bed for the rest of my life.  He also told me I should take Aleve every other day.

The medication made me really sick and nauseous the first couple of days, but I realized that my bedtime is a lot later than most peoples, and that the medication probably hasn’t worn off yet when I get up for work in the mornings.  So, I’ve been taking it around 10 every night, and it’s been awesome ever since.  I have a follow up appointment next month.  Can’t wait.

Also, I’m getting fitted for a new retainer next week, since I stopped wearing mine a few months after I got my braces off in 11th grade.  My teeth are so gross.  My poor, poor deformed mouth and jaw.

So, to every one who was curious about my headache situation…. it’s not a tumor.  I’m going to live after all.  Deformed small jaw and all.

Lucero is my favorite band for many reasons.  But mainly because they put on the best live shows.  They came to Orlando (and Ybor City!) a couple weeks ago, and Kirst, Nate, Brit, and I went to one of the Orlando shows.  They also added a Sunday show at the last minute.  If we would have known in advance, we would have totally gone to that.  I also wanted to go to the Ybor City show, but it was 21 and up, and Kirstie isn’t quite 21 yet. Bummer.

They’re just a bunch of good ole’ boys from Tennessee, and they truly care about their fans.  They thank everyone profusely after every song they play, and they probably don’t have a written set list, because they’re always taking requests from the audience.  This band is their life – they’re most likely on tour 90% of the time.  I just don’t understand why nobody has caught on to how awesome they are quite yet.  They’re still on some tiny label… I don’t understand why nobody has snatched them up yet.

I always used to hate it when little indie bands I love make it big, but I really wish that these guys would.  I think they deserve it.

The following pictures are from a show Kirstie and I went to last year:

The show was great, even though  they still didn’t play “California,” which is one of my favorite songs by them.  I have seen them three times already, and they’ve never played it!  But I love their cover of Jawbreaker’s “Kiss the Bottle,” and they played it, so all was well.  I think it’s one of their best live songs.

Their set seemed to be a little bit shorter than usual… they usually play until the venue shuts them down.  But, I suppose it was because it was a weekday.

After the show, Kirstie and I were waiting for Brittany and Nate to get out of the bathroom, and Brian came out and went across the street to buy all of the guys hot dogs.  And when he came back over go back inside The Social, he smiled at us and said “How are you ladies doing?” And Kirstie and I were total goobs and just smiled awkwardly as he went back inside. We’re smooth.

At any rate, I can’t wait until they come back again in a few months to put on another awesome show.  Lucero never disappoints.

I try to frequent Goodwill at least once a month.  I’ve gotten some pretty good finds in the past… my hot pink kitten heels, my 14 karat umbrella necklace, and countless dresses, but 2 weeks ago, I think I hit the motherload.  I was in search of cowboy boots, but I didn’t find any,  (but I won a sweet pair on ebay!) so I figured I’d go check out their movies. And I came across these gems:

They were only $.75 each! And two of them were still unopened with the wrapper on them!  I was so psyched to find them.  I just wish that the entire collection was there.

I was only in 4th Grade when “My So-Called Life” came on TV, and my mom thought it was “too old” for me to watch, but I used to sneak to watch it in my room every chance I could.  I just thought Angela was the epitome of cool.  And she had red hair, which is always a plus in my book.  It’s a shame that it got cancelled.

I had the biggest crush on Jordan Catalano.  It’s such a bummer that Jared Leto turned into a major tool later in life. (30 Seconds to Mars?!?! Really?!?! Jordan Catalano would have hated your band, FYI.)

I’m super psyched about my trading cards! I have them on my dresser mirror now.  And I’m looking forward to watching the Eve 6 music video.  “Inside Out” was my jam!

I think I am going to try to go to Goodwill more often so I can snatch up some more awesome stuff before other people do.

I didn’t do too awesome with my predictions this year. I am totally bummed out.  I’m gonna bold the winners. I’ll put stars by the categories I predicted accurately.
LEAD ACTOR
Richard Jenkins, The Visitor
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
I didn’t get this one. I chose Mickey Rourke. I thought he definitely had it in the bag, but I guess I was wrong. Sean Penn was my second choice! Seriously!

*LEAD ACTRESS
Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie, Changeling
Melissa Leo, Frozen River
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Kate Winslet, The Reader

I got this one right. I think this one was pretty much a shoe-in.

*SUPPORTING ACTOR
Josh Brolin, Milk
Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt
Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road

Of course I got this one.  All of the Academy would be going to hell if they wouldn’t have chosen him.  His parents’ and sister’s acceptance speech made me a little teary-eyed, I won’t lie.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Amy Adams, Doubt
Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis, Doubt
Taraji P. Henson, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Marisa Tomei, The Wrestler

I picked Taraji P. Henson from Benjamin Button for this one.  The Oscars usually give out a “dark horse” award out every year, and I thought this would be the one.  But whatev. I liked Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Well… yeah. I think this wasn’t a surprise.

*BEST DIRECTING
Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
David Fincher, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Ron Howard, Frost/Nixon
Gus Van Sant, Milk
Stephen Daldry, The Reader

I figured Slumdog would have taken everything, and I was right. [I think David Fincher should have won this one.]

*ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Courtney Hunt, Frozen River
Mike Leigh, Happy-Go-Lucky
Martin McDonagh, In Bruges
Dustin Lance Black, Milk
Andrew Stanton and Jim Reardon, Wall-E

Yeah, I got this one, too. A lot of bloggers are outraged that the guy that wrote In Bruges didn’t win it, but I think Black was definitely worthy of it.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Simon Beaufoy, Slumdog Millionaire
David Hare, The Reader
Peter Morgan, Frost/Nixon
Eric Roth, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
John Patrick Shanley, Doubt

I chose Benjamin Button for this, because uh… it deserved something.

*BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Bolt
Kung Fu Panda
Wall-E

One of the cutest movies I have ever seen. Totally worth it.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
The Baader Meinhof Complex, Germany
The Class, France
Departures, Japan
Revanche, Austria
Waltz with Bashir, Israel

I picked “Waltz,” because it was the only one I heard of.

*BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
The Betrayal (Nerakhoon)
Encounters at the End of the World
The Garden
Man on Wire
Trouble the Water

Once again, I went with the only one I had heard of.

BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
The Conscience of Nhem En
The Final Inch
Smile Pinki
The Witness — From the Balcony of Room 306

I picked “The Final Inch.” All of these films looked interesting, though.

I picked Revolutionary Road, simply because I liked their outfits.  I should have figured a period piece would have gotten it. They usually do.

Awwww, too bad Hellboy. Maybe you’ll get them with the third installment.

ORIGINAL SONG
“Down to Earth,” Wall-E
“Jai Ho,” Slumdog Millionaire
“O Saya,” Slumdog Millionaire

I picked the Wall-E song because it was cute.

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
La Maison en Petits Cubes
Lavatory — Lovestory
Oktapodi
Presto
This Way Up

I picked “This Way Up.” I think they were robbed.

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM
Auf der Strecke (On the Line)
Manon on the Asphalt
New Boy
The Pig
Spielzeugland (Toyland)

I picked “New Boy” because it looked cute.

I picked “The Dark Knight.” Because it was a loud action movie.

I picked “The Dark Knight” because it was a loud action movie?!

It would have been totally unfair if they wouldn’t have won for this.

So, I got 13 out of 24 correct.  Not too shabby, but not my best.

On the other hand, the Oscars were great this year! They were actually entertaining and funny. I was impressed with the set, how they presented the awards (with the previous year’s winners), and how they actually showed clips from non-nominated movies from this year in their respected categories.  The Pineapple Express montage and Ben Stiller’s impression of Joaquin Phoenix were hilarious.  Hugh Jackman’s opening was actually pretty entertaining as well.

I’m totally bummed that the award season is over with. What on Earth will I blog about now?!

Just Another Day.
February 15, 2009, 5:17 pm

So, yesterday was Valentine’s Day.  Even though I am single yet again on this day, it didn’t really bother me.  It was a great day, nonetheless.

I’ve decided that I’m not going to dwell on the past anymore.  I’m tired of wishing for things that I once had. I’m looking towards the future and I am just hoping for the best.

I spent yesterday afternoon with my little sister Kenzie, my (much older) little sister Kirstie, my mom, Kirst’s boyfriend Nate, Kenz’s friends Hannah and Jake, and their mom Heidi.

Kenzie and Hannah had a dance recital at the Mardi Gras Festival that is held every year at the Resurrection Church and School.  Kenzie was awesome, of course.  She was the best ballerina out there.  Nate surprised Kirstie by showing up there… he told her he had to work all day, but showed up with tulips for all of us girls.  I think Kirstie was very surprised, and I thought it was very thoughtful of him to do something like that.  We all had lunch at the fair- they had some of the best french fries I have ever had.  I also bought some mini homemade cinnamon donuts.  They were so good.

After lunch, the girls changed into their play clothes, and we went on all of the carnival rides.  We got one of those unlimited ride bracelet dealies for $20.  We went on some kiddie ride called the “Dizzy Dragon” first.  It was a bad idea, especially since we had just ate lunch.  I had to close my eyes the entire time we were on that ride, but felt okay after a few minutes.  Kirst felt really nauseous after it, and didn’t go on some rides for a long time.

It was fun, though. We went on the huge slide (which wasn’t a good idea for me, since I was wearing a dress) tons of times, but mom didn’t get any pictures of that.  We also went on one of those rides that drops you in mid-air, bumper cars, the tilt-a-whirl, the musik express (a hemalaya type of ride that smooshes you against  the door of the ride and goes around in circles super fast), and the ferris wheel.

All of the kids were super sweet. I had met Hannah and Jake at Kenzie’s Birthday Party last August, and they took to us then.  Hannah was holding my hand for the most part yesterday, with Kenzie holding the other one.  It’s just great to see that there are other kids out there that are as polite and sweet as Kenzie is.  I told Heidi that I would babysit them if she ever needed me to, so that would be fun for Kenz the next time that I have to babysit her to have her friends over here as well.

When we got home, Chuck’s band was playing that night, so I had to babysit Kenzie.  We ordered some pizza, got some ice cream from Bruster’s, and then came home and watched “Horton Hears A Who.”  We both fell asleep before Saturday Night Live came on.  We were exhausted.  And today I feel like a frail old lady.  My whole body aches, but it was worth it.

Yesterday was fun, and I didn’t get sad at all thinking about how this is another year of being single.  I think I am over searching for someone new, or hoping that Scott will come back to me.  When things are meant to happen for me, then it’ll happen. I just need to be patient.  I am over feeling sorry for myself, since I have so many things to be thankful for in my life.  I’m not going to worry about these things that I can’t control anymore.
