You Got A Nice Hand, But Never Show Your Cards.

Lucero is my favorite band for many reasons.  But mainly because they put on the best live shows.  They came to Orlando (and Ybor City!) a couple weeks ago, and Kirst, Nate, Brit, and I went to one of the Orlando shows.  They also added a Sunday show at the last minute.  If we would have known in advance, we would have totally gone to that.  I also wanted to go to the Ybor City show, but it was 21 and up, and Kirstie isn’t quite 21 yet. Bummer.

They’re just a bunch of good ole’ boys from Tennessee, and they truly care about their fans.  They thank everyone profusely after every song they play, and they probably don’t have a written set list, because they’re always taking requests from the audience.  This band is their life – they’re most likely on tour 90% of the time.  I just don’t understand why nobody has caught on to how awesome they are quite yet.  They’re still on some tiny label… I don’t understand why nobody has snatched them up yet.

I always used to hate it when little indie bands I love make it big, but I really wish that these guys would.  I think they deserve it.

The following pictures are from a show Kirstie and I went to last year:

The show was great, even though  they still didn’t play “California,” which is one of my favorite songs by them.  I have seen them three times already, and they’ve never played it!  But I love their cover of Jawbreaker’s “Kiss the Bottle,” and they played it, so all was well.  I think it’s one of their best live songs.

Their set seemed to be a little bit shorter than usual… they usually play until the venue shuts them down.  But, I suppose it was because it was a weekday.

After the show, Kirstie and I were waiting for Brittany and Nate to get out of the bathroom, and Brian came out and went across the street to buy all of the guys hot dogs.  And when he came back over go back inside The Social, he smiled at us and said “How are you ladies doing?” And Kirstie and I were total goobs and just smiled awkwardly as he went back inside. We’re smooth.

At any rate, I can’t wait until they come back again in a few months to put on another awesome show.  Lucero never disappoints.
